Matt's Today in History

This podcast puts out about three episodes a week which each focus on an individual event in history which occurred on the day an episode is released. The podcast is primarily US focussed, although Matt does discuss a variety of events throughout the world.

Examples of episodes that I listened to discussed the origins of the Korean War and the lives of some of ‘founding fathers’ of US Independence. The episodes each run for around ten minutes or less and are straight to the point without the massive pre-ramble that many podcasts seem to get into.

Matt reads from what appears to be a prepared script and succinctly discusses the topic of the day. The audio quality of the podcast was good however I did find that the ‘s’ sounds were a bit slurred in the final recording. The benefits of reading from a prepared script are that each episode is tightly edited, however at times spontaneity and energy is lacking with this rigid style.

The main benefit of this podcast compared to other history podcasts is that there is no rambling on about topics in a boring way. Matt seems to understand that many people have an interest in History but are often not catered for by many of the history outlets that are available. Matt is able to communicate his material in a concise and entertaining narrative without getting weighed down in academic theories.
